Some answers to frequent asked questions

Reservation of a bungalow?
The easiest way to make a reservation is per email. To confirm your reservation we ask for a 50% deposit payment via PayPal (plus 4% commission) or to our spanish bank account (in Euro) or with your credit card (plus 5% commission).

How to get from Cancún to Chiquilá by car?
By car it takes about 2.5 hours. You take the freeway no. 180 (Mérida libre) direction Mérida and turn right in direction Kantunilkin in El Ideal (kilómetro 80). After another 80 km you reach Chiquilá from where you take the ferry to Holbox Island. In Chiquilá you will find controlled parking lots. They cost approx. 30 to 40 pesos per day (depending on the size of your car).

Can I bring my car to Holbox?
We don’t recommend it. There are no solid roads. The ferry leaves on a irregular bases and is not really meant for private cars.

How to get to Chiquilá from Mérida by car?
By car it takes approx. 4 hours. Take the Mérida-Cancún road no. 180. If you take the highway get off in Valladoloid (last exit). Turn left in El Ideal in direction Kantunilkin. After 80 km you arrive in Chiquilá where you take the ferry to Holbox island.

Cost of the ferry/taxi
The transfer costs 45 pesos per person. Duration approx. 20 minutes. Arrived at Holbox, you can reach Chimay in a walking distance of approx. 25 minutes or you take a taxi (from 6 am to 12 pm 50 Pesos, during the night 100 Pesos). If the taxi drives wants to take you to another hotel, insist him to bring you to Chimay. There are hotels paying a high commission to taxi drivers when they bring them people.

How to get in the city from Cancún Airport?
There are 3 possibilities:
- Share a taxi (collectivo) for approx. 12 US$ per person
- If you prefer a private taxi, you have to spend about 35 US$
- There is a public ADO bus, which costs 35 pesos per person. It leaves across the parking just in front of the arrival building “National”. If you ask in the airport about this bus, they usually won't tell you.

How to get to Chiquilá from Cancún by bus?
Please check the section "Map" for the timetable of the buses. The bus costs approx. 76 pesos  per person. Usually the bus has got connection to the boat heading for Holbox. When you arrive in Holbox take a taxi to Villas Chimay. If the taxi driver wants to bring you to another hotel, please insist on going to Villas Chimay. Some hotels pay the taxi drivers very high commissions for bringing them guests.

Is there a bank on Holbox?
There should be bank open up soon. But at the moment there is no bank. There is a possibility to change US$ or Euro in the internet café. Please be aware that only a few places accept credit cards.

What about the mosquitos?
It always depends on the season and the daily weather conditions. We recommend to bring a repellent and a long sleeve shirt and long trousers. They sell repellent on the island as well.

Do you have air conditioning?
Because we are an ecological resort, we don’t have air conditioned bungalows. If it gets to hot, we have fans. The construction of the Palapa bungalows is made in a way that the rooms are very airy and well ventilated.
